HOUSTON (Sept. 17, 2003) Consumers looking to move to Houston have a great selection of properties from which to
choose, according to statistics released today by the Houston Association of REALTORS® Multiple Listing Service. The
number of available properties in August 2003, consisting of single-family homes, town homes, multifamily, country
homes, high-rise properties and lots listed on the MLS, topped out at 38,336, representing the highest level of
inventory since May 1988. Additionally, total sales for August reached 6,255, representing the highest number of sales ever recorded in the month of August. The total sales of 6,255 demonstrated a 12 percent increase in cumulative sales from last years 5,583. Our market continues to perform, said HAR Chairman Dovie Morgan. Despite the typical seasonal slowdown, more than 3,700 properties are slated to close during September. People are still responding to the interest rates, and I think they are finally realizing they are not going any lower. Total sales continue to rise ahead of last years record-setting pace, with 43,135 listings sold to date. Year-to-date existing sales through August 2002 totaled 41,421. |
