A keen interest in homes, real estate and sales at a very young age became the foundation of Cheri Fama's career.
A native of Beaumont and a Houston resident since 1978, Cheri graduated from Texas A&M University with a BBA in marketing. Her decision to learn the real estate business from many angles was a wise one. She launched her career as a consultant with Houston Lighting and Power (now Reliant Energy), allowing her to work with many of the most prominent commercial and residential developers, architects and builders during a period of explosive growth in Houston. This experience propelled her into a position with Lincoln Property Company, a national commercial firm. Cheri handled commercial office leasing for the firm as well as marketing efforts and build-to-suit jobs.
Her interest in residential real estate was always in the background, and in 1982, Cheri moved into Custom New Home Sales representing seven builders in the Sugar Land area. Her new-construction knowledge and experience served her well as she later associated with a prestigious real estate firm in 1986 and quickly became the firm's primary "go to" person on new construction in the redeveloping of close-in neighborhoods including Tanglewood, Memorial, River Oaks, etc.
Cheri ultimately became the president of the firm, which was purchased by Zarr & Company Realtors in 1994. Her diverse background provided the knowledge and depth necessary to maneuver into the exciting and expanding Downtown Houston residential arena. Cheri moved the company into the Central Business District in the fall of 1998 with the Keystone Loft project, followed by the Capital Lofts and other developments. The company became the prime source for developer consultation prior to launching Downtown residential projects.
In 1999, Zarr & Company merged with House Hunters, and Cheri's role expanded to include management of the firm's largest branch operation. This position afforded her the opportunity to work one-on-one on a daily basis with sales associates by supporting them in their sales efforts and continually providing them with the knowledge and training that truly set them apart in the marketplace. Continued involvement with new construction has included marketing and sales of the Tanglewood and Venti mid-rise condominium developments as well as numerous single-family homes and townhome projects. Cheri's extensive experience in real estate led her to John Daugherty, Realtors in 2010. She is currently President and Chief Operating Officer.
Cheri has been extensively involved with the Houston Association of Realtors since 1990, serving multiple terms on the Board of Directors and chairing numerous committees and events.
Her community involvement includes the Junior League of Houston, Duchesne Academy Parents Association, Kinkaid Parents Association, Baylor University Parents Association, Texas Christian University Parents Association, The Nancy Owens Memorial Foundation, Houston Ballet Guild, Visionaries for Neighborhood Centers, Inc., Dress for Success Advisory Board, Rice University Guest Lecturer and Briargrove Property Owners Board of Directors.
Cheri and her husband Alan, a fine art broker, have two children and enjoy traveling and sports.
Forging long-term client relationships is at the core of Monica's approach. No transaction is ever a one-and-done deal. Rather Monica focuses on earning her clients' trust, loyalty, and friendship. Monica's long-standing clients include residential buyers and sellers, investors, and builders, many of whom she has represented on multiple transactions. Monica attributes this to her stellar negotiation skills, integrity, and expert knowledge of the Houston market.
Growing up the granddaughter of a builder, real estate was a natural next step for Monica after she retired from a successful career as an appellate attorney. Monica graduated cum laude from Dedman College of Law (Southern Methodist University) where she was inducted into the Order of the Coif, named a Hutchison Fellow (full merit scholarship), and was an editor of the SMU Law Review. She received her BA magna cum laude in Chinese History and Political Science from Colorado College and studied Mandarin Chinese as a PICAS Fellow at the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor.
In her spare time, Monica likes spending time with her family and three fur babies. She enjoys Sudoku, Vinyasa Yoga, and attending performances of the Houston Grand Opera. Monica believes in serving her community and actively donates to Houston PetSet and various performing arts organizations.
