Yes, any garage that does not share a wall with the home is detached. A completely detached garage also does not have a continuous roofline attaching it to the home. Detached garages that do connect to the home by a continuous roof are often referred to as an "attached detached garage". They are attached to the home by the continuous roofline, but are still a separated building with no common walls connecting the garage to the home.
In our MLS we have fields for all three types of garages:
--attached
--detached
--attached-detached

Hi RK,

An attached garage is attached to the house - you drive in your garage and have access to the house through the garage. Attached garages can be on the side, the back, the front, etc.

A detached garage is separate from the house, usually back. You have to physically walk out of the garage to the home.

Hope this helps!

If you have to go outside to get to the garage, I would consider that detached, even if it has a covered walkway from the house to the garage.
