hello
Does all the landlord/rental properties need to accept housing voucher? If not are they are failing any fair housing law? I got a call today from someone saying housing authority and telling me that all rental properties need to accept voucher. Anything recently changed?

Hey Vijaianand, Great question. Landlords in Texas are not required to accept families with a housing voucher. Hope this helps!

In Texas, landlords are not required by state law to accept Section 8 vouchers. However, local ordinances in certain cities may have regulations that affect this.### Key Points:1. Texas State Law: - Texas does not have a statewide law mandating landlords to accept Section 8 vouchers. - Landlords can choose whether or not to participate in the Section 8 program.2. Local Ordinances: - Some cities or counties might have local ordinances that prohibit discrimination based on a tenant's source of income, which can include Section 8 vouchers. - For example, Austin has passed ordinances to protect voucher holders from discrimination, although the enforcement and legal status of these ordinances can be subject to changes and legal challenges.

In the State of Texas, landlord and property management companies have the choice to accept or decline Section 8. It is not a Fair Housing violation to decline Section 8.

No. Nothing has changed. Landlords do not have to accept or allow or even consider section 8 voucher recipients in the state of Texas.
