I notice the same home may vary on taxes they pay. Saw some property value at 335K, but only pays tax for $5103, the tax rate is 2.67%, assuming 20% homestead, 15K for homestead amount, over 65 and disable amount, can someone explains how they can only pay $5103?

There is a wealth of information about Texas Taxes on the State Comptrollers website,, under the Texas Taxes tab.
http://www.window.state.tx.us/taxes/

Here is a link that explains the tax exemptions, with links embedded into the page that will lead you to more detailed information.

Hope this helps!

Most likely the over 65 deduction is causing the huge difference in appraised value that you are seeing. At age 65 the tax appraised value freezes. Someone that has lived in their home for many years certainly benefits from this. As Robert mentioned you can go to HCAD.org to find the appraised tax value and what deductions are being claimed.

From what you mention, the over-65 exemption is what is likely giving the property owners a big break. Check the appraisal district to find more information.

You can find the Appraised Tax value for Harris County at www.HCAD.org
Search for the property there and hopefully your question is answered, otherwise contact a Realtor member of HAR.

Property taxes are based on the tax appraisal district's value of the property, not the listing price.
