Hi

I am relocating to Houston from UK in May. I will be staying in temporary accommodation for the first month and then have to move into a rental. Having done a fair bit of research, i think i have narrowed it down to a couple of areas. However, the question i have is that if I use a realtor, what would be the typical costs? is it worth using a realtor for a rental home?

Thanks

Raj

Hi Rajkiran,

The cost is pretty standard and paid by the landlord: one month's rent split between the 2 agents. I highly recommend you use a brokerage who has property management and is used to all leasing laws and will help you get the best deal for you rental. Our office has full time property management.

Definitely worth engaging a realtor. The cost of that realtor will typically be borne on the Landlord side, so you are not paying anything for the service.

Hi Raj, Relocating can be a very stressful experience. Moving, finding schools and doctors, forwarding mail, finding employment of acclimating me to a new work environment, etc. can be overwhelming. Where you are going is too important to leave to chance. Enlist the services of a good REALTOR to make your transition to Houston less stressful. We do the work to find you properties, submit leasing applications, negotiate terms, etc. What's more...the Owner/Landlord pays the commission.

Hi Raj, When you are buying or looking to rent a home, you will not typically pay your Realtor anything, so it is very worthwhile to use one. Houston is a huge city, the fourth largest in the USA and is growing rapidly. It can overwhelming even for a local to find a home, so for someone new to the area it is imperative to find a Realtor who will represent you and find you the right rental. I see you posted this a few months back, so I hope you were able to work with a Realtor and find a good home.
