On the other hand, Northside High School also earned a State accountability rating of C. The school posted 67 in student achievement, 78 in school progress, 73 in closing performance gaps and 77 overall in post-secondary readiness.
A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
It is in this area where the two schools differ. Wisdom High School’s only distinction designation is in Social Studies. Northside High School's three out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics and Social Studies.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, the dominant group in Wisdom High School is Hispanics who make up nearly 75.73% of student population, followed by African Americans (13.49%), Whites or Caucasians (5.22%), Asians (4.68%), Two or More Races (0.54%) and Native Americans (0.25%).
At Northside High School, Hispanics make up 85.14% of student population, followed by African Americans (13.57%), Whites or Caucasians (0.83%), Two or More Races (0.30%), Asians (0.08%) and Native Americans (0.08%).
Based on household incomes, Wisdom High School’s economically disadvantaged students is slightly higher at 98.28% compared to 95.00% at Northside High School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Wisdom High School has a significantly higher number of English Language Learners comprising 66.22% of its student population compared to 26.91% at Northside High School.
In addition, Wisdom High School has 65.63% bilingual students, 2.46% are in the gifted and talented program, while 7.58% are in the special education program. This stacks up against Northside High School with 26.16% bilingual students, 13.87% gifted and talented students and 12.13% students in the special education program.
Wisdom High School's 93 teachers have been working at the campus for an average of 5.6 years with individual teaching experience averaging nearly 9.4 years. Northside High School's 82 teachers have been working at the campus for an average of 9.8 years with individual teaching experience averaging close to 13.1 years.
Of its teaching staff, Wisdom High School has one teacher only serving the school for over 30 years, has nine teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 24 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, 24 teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 25 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including 11 beginning teachers. Northside High School has two teachers serving the school for over 30 years, has 12 teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 30 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, 18 teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 16 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including three beginning teachers.
In both schools, female teachers outnumber the male teachers. Wisdom High School employs 47 female teachers and 45 male teachers. Of its teaching staff, three teachers are in special education without any assistance. The school also employs four staff members in the school administration department and 14 more working as school support staff.
On the other hand, Northside High School employs 49 female teachers and 33 male teachers.
