Distinction Designations for Wedgewood Elementary School and Margaret S McWhirter Elementary School are not applicable as neither one earned a recognition for outstanding achievement in seven categories.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Whites or Caucasians comprise the biggest group at Wedgewood Elementary School. They make up for 45.08% of student population, followed by Hispanics (36.83%), African Americans (9.21%), Two or More Races (5.71%), Asians (2.86%) and Native Americans (0.32%).
At Margaret S McWhirter Elementary School, Hispanics make up 71.89% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (11.42%), African Americans (10.91%), Two or More Races (3.34%), Asians (1.80%) and Native Americans (0.26%).
Based on household incomes, the Wedgewood Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly lower at 55.24% compared to 74.33% at Margaret S McWhirter Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Wedgewood Elementary School has 46 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 7.30% of student population. Margaret S McWhirter Elementary School has significantly more ELLs at 429 or about 55.07% of student population.
In addition, Wedgewood Elementary School has 6.83% bilingual students, 4.13% are in the gifted and talented program, while 17.46% are in the special education program.
