Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. The current standards, called Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills, outline what students should be able to learn and do in each course or grade. When we compared Wedgewood Elementary School, which is a part of CLEAR CREEK ISD, with G W Robinson, which is a part of CLEAR CREEK ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
Wedgewood Elementary School has a regular student population of 630 with a 13.6 students/teacher ratio while G W Robinson has 529 students and a student-teacher ratio of 17.1 students/teacher ratio.
Wedgewood Elementary School earned a State accountability rating of B (80-89) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 74 in student achievement, 90 in school progress and 77 in closing performance gaps. It scored 86 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.
On the other hand, G W Robinson performed excellent to earn a State accountability rating of A. The school posted 86 in student achievement, 91 in school progress, 88 in closing performance gaps and 90 overall in post-secondary readiness.
A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Distinction Designations for Wedgewood Elementary School and G W Robinson are not applicable as neither one earned a recognition for outstanding achievement in seven categories.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Whites or Caucasians comprise the biggest group at Wedgewood Elementary School. They make up for 45.08% of student population, followed by Hispanics (36.83%), African Americans (9.21%), Two or More Races (5.71%), Asians (2.86%) and Native Americans (0.32%).
At G W Robinson, Whites or Caucasians are the biggest group, comprising 64.84% of student population, followed by Hispanics (21.36%), Two or More Races (5.48%), African Americans (4.91%), Asians (2.46%) and Native Americans (0.95%).
Based on household incomes, Wedgewood Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly higher at 55.24% compared to 33.46% at G W Robinson.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Wedgewood Elementary School has a slightly higher number of English Language Learners comprising 7.30% of its student population compared to 4.91% at G W Robinson.
In addition, Wedgewood Elementary School has 6.83% bilingual students, 4.13% are in the gifted and talented program, while 17.46% are in the special education program. This stacks up against G W Robinson with 4.91% bilingual students, 15.31% gifted and talented students and 10.78% students in the special education program.
46 teachers employed at Wedgewood Elementary School have been teaching in the school for an average of about 6.9 years with individual teaching experience averaging 9.1 years. The 30 teachers at G W Robinson have been serving the school for an average of 6.5 years with individual teaching experience averaging 11.7 years.
Of its teaching staff, Wedgewood Elementary School no teacher serving the school for over 30 years, has four teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, nine teachers have worked for 11-20 years, 16 teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 18 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, and school has no beginning teacher. G W Robinson no teacher serving the school for over 30 years, has six teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 11 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, four teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while ten teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, and school has no beginning teacher.
In both schools, female teachers outnumber the male teachers. At Wedgewood Elementary School there are 45 female teachers and one male teacher only. Of its teaching staff, eight special education teachers are being assisted by 11 teachers aides or paraprofessionals.
