Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. When we compared Wedgewood Elementary School, which is a part of CLEAR CREEK ISD, with Campbell Elementary School, which is a part of CLEAR CREEK ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
Wedgewood Elementary School has a regular student population of 630 with a 13.6 students/teacher ratio while Campbell Elementary School has 690 students and a student-teacher ratio of 14.9 students/teacher ratio.
Wedgewood Elementary School earned a State accountability rating of B (80-89) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 74 in student achievement, 90 in school progress and 77 in closing performance gaps. It scored 86 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.
On the other hand, Campbell Elementary School performed excellent to earn a State accountability rating of A. The school posted 89 in student achievement, 91 in school progress, 92 in closing performance gaps and 91 overall in post-secondary readiness.
A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Distinction Designations for Wedgewood Elementary School and Campbell Elementary School are not applicable as neither one earned a recognition for outstanding achievement in seven categories.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Whites or Caucasians comprise the biggest group at Wedgewood Elementary School. They make up for 45.08% of student population, followed by Hispanics (36.83%), African Americans (9.21%), Two or More Races (5.71%), Asians (2.86%) and Native Americans (0.32%).
The student population at Campbell Elementary School is also predominantly by Whites or Caucasians at 53.91%, followed by Hispanics (25.51%), Asians (8.84%), African Americans (7.54%), Two or More Races (3.91%) and Native Americans (0.14%).
Based on household incomes, Wedgewood Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly higher at 55.24% compared to 18.99% at Campbell Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Wedgewood Elementary School has 46 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 7.30% of student population. Campbell Elementary School has slightly more ELLs at 62 or about 8.99% of student population.
In addition, Wedgewood Elementary School has 6.83% bilingual students, 4.13% are in the gifted and talented program, while 17.46% are in the special education program. This stacks up against Campbell Elementary School with 7.97% bilingual students, 11.30% gifted and talented students and 16.52% students in the special education program.
