Choosing the right middle school for your children can prove to be a daunting task. Middle school is when children start to flex their growing independence. When we compared Stelle Claughton Middle School, which is a part of SPRING ISD, with Dueitt Middle School, which is a part of SPRING ISD, we noted a huge gap in ratings.
Stelle Claughton Middle School’s regular student population is 933 with a 15 students/teacher ratio. The student population at Dueitt Middle School is 857 students and a 15.8 students/teacher ratio.
Stelle Claughton Middle School earned a State accountability rating of C (70-79) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 56 in student achievement, 79 in school progress and 70 in closing performance gaps. It scored 76 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.
On the other hand, Dueitt Middle School not rated a State accountability rating of Not Rated: SB 1365. The school posted 56 in student achievement, 63 in school progress, 70 in closing performance gaps and 65 overall in post-secondary readiness.
A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Distinction Designations for Stelle Claughton Middle School and Dueitt Middle School are not applicable as neither one earned a recognition for outstanding achievement in seven categories.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Hispanics comprise the biggest group at Stelle Claughton Middle School. They make up for 57.23% of student population, followed by African Americans (34.62%), Asians (3.11%), Native Americans (1.93%), Whites or Caucasians (1.61%) and Two or More Races (1.50%).
The student population at Dueitt Middle School is also predominantly by Hispanics at 49.71%, followed by African Americans (37.81%), Whites or Caucasians (7.93%), Two or More Races (2.33%), Native Americans (1.17%) and Asians (0.70%).
Based on household incomes, Stelle Claughton Middle School’s economically disadvantaged students is slightly higher at 92.39% compared to 87.28% at Dueitt Middle School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Stelle Claughton Middle School has a significantly higher number of English Language Learners comprising 42.77% of its student population compared to 25.44% at Dueitt Middle School.
In addition, Stelle Claughton Middle School has 42.55% bilingual students, 3.97% are in the gifted and talented program, while 10.83% are in the special education program. This stacks up against Dueitt Middle School with 22.99% bilingual students, 6.77% gifted and talented students and 13.65% students in the special education program.
Stelle Claughton Middle School's 62 teachers have been working at the campus for an average of 3.8 years with individual teaching experience averaging 7.8 years. Teachers at Dueitt Middle School, numbering 54 teachers, have been serving the school for an average of 4.4 years with individual teaching experience averaging 7.9 years.
Of its teaching staff, Stelle Claughton Middle School has one teacher only serving the school for over 30 years, has six teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, ten teachers have worked for 11-20 years, nine teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 31 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including five beginning teachers. Dueitt Middle School has one teacher only serving the school for over 30 years, has two teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 18 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, five teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 18 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including ten beginning teachers.
In both schools, female teachers outnumber the male teachers. At Stelle Claughton Middle School there are 35 female teachers and 26 male teachers. Of its teaching staff, five special education teachers are being assisted by eight teachers aides or paraprofessionals. In addition to its teaching staff, the school has four staff members in the school administration department and ten more working as school support staff.
At Dueitt Middle School there are 31 female teachers and 22 male teachers. Of its teaching staff, seven special education teachers are being assisted by 11 teachers aides or paraprofessionals.
