Choosing the right middle school for your children can prove to be a daunting task. Middle school is when children start to flex their growing independence. This is a critical transition period for students. As they assert their independence, their responsibilities increase, they attend multiple classes and their academic performance are closely monitored and graded. Schools focus on preparing them for the more rigorous academic grind in high school.
When we compared Space Center Intermediate, which is a part of CLEAR CREEK ISD, with Creekside Intermediate, which is a part of CLEAR CREEK ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
Space Center Intermediate’s regular student population is 884 with a 13.9 students/teacher ratio. The student population at Creekside Intermediate is 884 students and a 13.5 students/teacher ratio.
Space Center Intermediate earned a State accountability rating of C (70-79) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 78 in student achievement, 77 in school progress and 76 in closing performance gaps. It scored 77 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.
On the other hand, Creekside Intermediate earned a State accountability rating of B. The school posted 83 in student achievement, 80 in school progress, 79 in closing performance gaps and 82 overall in post-secondary readiness.
A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Distinction Designations for Space Center Intermediate and Creekside Intermediate are not applicable as neither one earned a recognition for outstanding achievement in seven categories.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Hispanics comprise the biggest group at Space Center Intermediate. They make up for 44.12% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (34.16%), African Americans (11.09%), Asians (6.67%) and Two or More Races (3.96%). There is no Native Americans student in the school.
The student population at Creekside Intermediate is also predominantly by Whites or Caucasians at 53.17%, followed by Hispanics (31.00%), African Americans (6.45%), Two or More Races (5.20%) and Asians (4.07%). There is no Native Americans student in the school.
Based on household incomes, Space Center Intermediate’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly higher at 50.00% compared to 29.19% at Creekside Intermediate.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Space Center Intermediate has a significantly higher number of English Language Learners comprising 23.30% of its student population compared to 3.96% at Creekside Intermediate.
In addition, Space Center Intermediate has 20.70% bilingual students, 2.94% are in the gifted and talented program, while 17.31% are in the special education program. This stacks up against Creekside Intermediate with 3.51% bilingual students, 3.73% gifted and talented students and 19.91% students in the special education program.
Space Center Intermediate's 63 teachers have been working at the campus for an average of 7.9 years with individual teaching experience averaging 12.7 years. Teachers at Creekside Intermediate, numbering 65 teachers, have been serving the school for an average of 8.7 years with individual teaching experience averaging 12.5 years.
Of its teaching staff, Space Center Intermediate has one teacher only serving the school for over 30 years, has 15 teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 20 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, nine teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 17 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including two beginning teachers. Creekside Intermediate has one teacher only serving the school for over 30 years, has six teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 30 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, 11 teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 12 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including six beginning teachers.
In both schools, female teachers outnumber the male teachers. At Space Center Intermediate there are 41 female teachers and 21 male teachers. Of its teaching staff, 16 special education teachers are being assisted by 13 teachers aides or paraprofessionals. In addition to its teaching staff, the school has two staff members in the school administration department and ten more working as school support staff.
At Creekside Intermediate there are 46 female teachers and 18 male teachers. Of its teaching staff, 17 special education teachers are being assisted by seven teachers aides or paraprofessionals. In addition to its teaching staff, the school has two staff members in the school administration department and seven more working as school support staff.
