Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
It is in this area where the two schools differ. Smith Middle School bagged all seven distinction awards in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, post-secondary, with 25% student progress and 25% closing performance gaps. Hamilton Middle School’s three out of seven distinctions are in Social Studies, post-secondary and 25% closing performance gaps.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Whites or Caucasians comprise the biggest group at Smith Middle School. They make up for 40.38% of student population, followed by Asians (22.03%), Hispanics (21.59%), African Americans (11.37%), Two or More Races (4.01%) and Native Americans (0.33%).
The student population at Hamilton Middle School is also predominantly by Whites or Caucasians at 44.89%, followed by Hispanics (27.22%), African Americans (14.48%), Asians (9.76%), Two or More Races (3.52%) and Native Americans (0.13%).
Based on household incomes, the Smith Middle School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly lower at 13.52% compared to 35.59% at Hamilton Middle School.
