When we compared Sharpstown International School, which is a part of HOUSTON ISD, with Pleasantville Elementary School, which is a part of HOUSTON ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
Sharpstown International School has a regular student population of 1,304 with a 17.1 students/teacher ratio while Pleasantville Elementary School has 269 students and a student-teacher ratio of 14.9 students/teacher ratio.

It is in this area where the two schools differ. Sharpstown International School’s two out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA) and 25% closing performance gaps. Pleasantville Elementary School's five out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, post-secondary, with 25% student progress and 25% closing performance gaps.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, the dominant group in Sharpstown International School is Hispanics who make up nearly 82.52% of student population, followed by Asians (8.51%), African Americans (6.44%), Whites or Caucasians (1.99%), Native Americans (0.23%) and Two or More Races (0.23%).
At Pleasantville Elementary School, African Americans are the biggest group, comprising 56.13% of student population, followed by Hispanics (41.26%), Two or More Races (1.86%) and Whites or Caucasians (0.74%). There is no Asians and Native Americansstudents in the school.
Based on household incomes, Sharpstown International School’s economically disadvantaged students is higher at 97.70% compared to 95.54% at Pleasantville Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Sharpstown International School has a significantly higher number of English Language Learners comprising 27.53% of its student population compared to 20.45% at Pleasantville Elementary School.
Sharpstown International School’s bilingual students comprise 26.99%, gifted and talented students, 24.77%, while 6.44% are in the special education program. Pleasantville Elementary School bilingual students comprise 20.82%, gifted and talented students, 2.97%, and 5.95% are in the special education program.
