Schools focus on preparing them for the more rigorous academic grind in high school.
When we compared Seven Lakes Junior High School, which is a part of KATY ISD, with Stockdick Junior High School, which is a part of KATY ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
Seven Lakes Junior High School’s regular student population is 1,529 with a 18.4 students/teacher ratio. The student population at Stockdick Junior High School is 1,128 students and a 14.7 students/teacher ratio.
Seven Lakes Junior High School performed excellent to earn a State accountability rating of A (90-100) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 96 in student achievement, 93 in school progress and 98 in closing performance gaps. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
It is in this area where the two schools differ. Seven Lakes Junior High School's six out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, post-secondary and with 25% student progress. Stockdick Junior High School’s four out of seven distinctions are in Science, post-secondary, with 25% student progress and 25% closing performance gaps.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Asians comprise the biggest group at Seven Lakes Junior High School. They make up for 34.66% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (28.97%), Hispanics (26.03%), African Americans (7.13%), Two or More Races (2.88%) and Native Americans (0.26%).
The student population at Stockdick Junior High School is also predominantly by Hispanics at 48.58%, followed by African Americans (23.94%), Whites or Caucasians (16.84%), Asians (7.54%), Two or More Races (2.84%) and Native Americans (0.18%).
Based on household incomes, the Seven Lakes Junior High School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly lower at 18.77% compared to 47.07% at Stockdick Junior High School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Seven Lakes Junior High School has 176 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 11.51% of student population. Stockdick Junior High School has significantly more ELLs at 198 or about 17.55% of student population.
Seven Lakes Junior High School’s bilingual students comprise 10.73%, gifted and talented students, 22.30%, while 8.44% are in the special education program.
