When we compared Scarborough Elementary School, which is a part of NORTHSIDE ISD, with Powell Elementary School, which is a part of NORTHSIDE ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
Scarborough Elementary School has a regular student population of 783 with a 14.8 students/teacher ratio while Powell Elementary School has 410 students and a student-teacher ratio of 12.8 students/teacher ratio.
Scarborough Elementary School earned a State accountability rating of B (80-89) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 77 in student achievement, 89 in school progress and 81 in closing performance gaps. It scored 87 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.

A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Powell Elementary School's one out of seven distinction is in Science. Scarborough Elementary School has no distinction.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Hispanics comprise the biggest group at Scarborough Elementary School. They make up for 57.34% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (22.35%), African Americans (8.30%), Two or More Races (7.92%) and Asians (3.58%). There is no Native Americans student in the school.
At Powell Elementary School, Hispanics make up 78.54% of student population, followed by African Americans (9.02%), Whites or Caucasians (8.29%), Two or More Races (2.68%) and Asians (1.46%). There is no Native Americans student in the school.
Based on household incomes, the Scarborough Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly lower at 27.08% compared to 85.85% at Powell Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Scarborough Elementary School has a significantly higher number of English Language Learners comprising 4.47% of its student population compared to 2.68% at Powell Elementary School.
In addition, Scarborough Elementary School has 0.38% bilingual students, 3.96% are in the gifted and talented program, while 17.75% are in the special education program. This stacks up against Powell Elementary School with 0.49% bilingual students, 4.63% gifted and talented students and 16.34% students in the special education program.
