When we compared Ross Sterling Middle School, which is a part of HUMBLE ISD, with Timberwood Middle School, which is a part of HUMBLE ISD, we noted a huge gap in ratings.
Ross Sterling Middle School’s regular student population is 919 with a 12.3 students/teacher ratio. The student population at Timberwood Middle School is 1,181 students and a 15.3 students/teacher ratio.
Ross Sterling Middle School earned a State accountability rating of C (70-79) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 69 in student achievement, 79 in school progress and 76 in closing performance gaps. It scored 78 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.
On the other hand, Timberwood Middle School not rated a State accountability rating of Not Rated: SB 1365. The school posted 70 in student achievement, 58 in school progress, 63 in closing performance gaps and 68 overall in post-secondary readiness.
A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Distinction Designations for Ross Sterling Middle School and Timberwood Middle School are not applicable as neither one earned a recognition for outstanding achievement in seven categories.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Hispanics comprise the biggest group at Ross Sterling Middle School. They make up for 55.93% of student population, followed by African Americans (34.39%), Whites or Caucasians (6.20%), Two or More Races (1.09%), Native Americans (0.33%) and Asians (0.22%).
The student population at Timberwood Middle School is also predominantly by Hispanics at 41.32%, followed by African Americans (27.35%), Whites or Caucasians (26.16%), Asians (2.29%), Two or More Races (2.03%) and Native Americans (0.42%).
Based on household incomes, Ross Sterling Middle School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly higher at 75.73% compared to 46.32% at Timberwood Middle School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Ross Sterling Middle School has a significantly higher number of English Language Learners comprising 24.37% of its student population compared to 7.11% at Timberwood Middle School.
In addition, Ross Sterling Middle School has 24.48% bilingual students, 3.92% are in the gifted and talented program, while 11.32% are in the special education program. This stacks up against Timberwood Middle School with 6.44% bilingual students, 9.06% gifted and talented students and 11.60% students in the special education program.
