Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. The current standards, called Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills, outline what students should be able to learn and do in each course or grade. The curriculum is structured around the fundamentals of mathematics, science, social studies, language arts, music and reading.
When we compared Robison Elementary School, which is a part of CYPRESS-FAIRBANKS ISD, with Horne Elementary School, which is a part of CYPRESS-FAIRBANKS ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
Robison Elementary School has a regular student population of 884 with a 18.5 students/teacher ratio while Horne Elementary School has 903 students and a student-teacher ratio of 14.7 students/teacher ratio.
Robison Elementary School performed excellent to earn a State accountability rating of A (90-100) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 91 in student achievement, 88 in school progress and an impressive100 in closing performance gaps. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
It is in this area where the two schools differ. Robison Elementary School's three out of seven distinctions are in Mathematics, Science and 25% closing performance gaps. Horne Elementary School’s only distinction designation is in Science.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Whites or Caucasians comprise the biggest group at Robison Elementary School. They make up for 41.52% of student population, followed by Hispanics (33.48%), African Americans (11.54%), Asians (8.26%), Two or More Races (4.30%) and Native Americans (0.34%).
At Horne Elementary School, Hispanics are the biggest group, comprising 63.90% of student population, followed by African Americans (17.28%), Whites or Caucasians (8.75%), Asians (6.87%), Two or More Races (1.99%) and Native Americans (1.22%).
Based on household incomes, the Robison Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly lower at 42.31% compared to 81.06% at Horne Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Robison Elementary School has 110 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 12.44% of student population. Horne Elementary School has significantly more ELLs at 355 or about 39.31% of student population.
Robison Elementary School’s bilingual students comprise 11.54%, gifted and talented students, 4.30%, while 13.57% are in the special education program. Horne Elementary School bilingual students comprise 37.98%, gifted and talented students, 2.77%, and 10.19% are in the special education program.

The 61 teachers at Horne Elementary School have been serving the school for an average of 4.3 years with individual teaching experience averaging 8 years.

At Horne Elementary School there are 55 female teachers and six male teachers. Of its teaching staff, five special education teachers are being assisted by 19 teachers aides or paraprofessionals.
