It is in this area where the two schools differ. River Oaks Elementary School's six out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, Science, post-secondary, with 25% student progress and 25% closing performance gaps. Sharpstown International School’s two out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA) and 25% closing performance gaps.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Asians comprise the biggest group at River Oaks Elementary School. They make up for 36.39% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (33.72%), Hispanics (17.20%), Two or More Races (7.51%), African Americans (4.84%) and Native Americans (0.17%).
At Sharpstown International School, Hispanics make up 82.52% of student population, followed by Asians (8.51%), African Americans (6.44%), Whites or Caucasians (1.99%), Native Americans (0.23%) and Two or More Races (0.23%).
Based on household incomes, the River Oaks Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly lower at 13.86% compared to 97.70% at Sharpstown International School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, River Oaks Elementary School has 61 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 10.18% of student population. Sharpstown International School has significantly more ELLs at 359 or about 27.53% of student population.
River Oaks Elementary School’s bilingual students comprise 10.52%, gifted and talented students, 62.44%, while 4.84% are in the special education program.
