Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. The current standards, called Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills, outline what students should be able to learn and do in each course or grade. When we compared Reinhardt Elementary School, which is a part of DALLAS ISD, with Cesar Chavez Learning Center, which is a part of DALLAS ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
Reinhardt Elementary School has a regular student population of 443 with a 13.6 students/teacher ratio while Cesar Chavez Learning Center has 579 students and a student-teacher ratio of 14.2 students/teacher ratio.
Reinhardt Elementary School earned a State accountability rating of B (80-89) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 72 in student achievement, 86 in school progress and 88 in closing performance gaps. It scored 87 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.
On the other hand, Cesar Chavez Learning Center earned a State accountability rating of C. The school posted 69 in student achievement, 80 in school progress, 78 in closing performance gaps and 77 overall in post-secondary readiness.
A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Cesar Chavez Learning Center's one out of seven distinction is in Science. Reinhardt Elementary School has no distinction.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, the dominant group in Reinhardt Elementary School is Hispanics who make up nearly 87.36% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (5.64%), African Americans (4.06%), Two or More Races (2.26%), Native Americans (0.45%) and Asians (0.23%).
The student population at Cesar Chavez Learning Center is also predominantly by African Americans at 51.81%, followed by Hispanics (42.14%), Whites or Caucasians (2.07%), Asians (2.07%), Two or More Races (1.38%) and Native Americans (0.52%).
Based on household incomes, the Reinhardt Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is slightly lower at 90.74% compared to 94.99% at Cesar Chavez Learning Center.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Reinhardt Elementary School has a significantly higher number of English Language Learners comprising 53.27% of its student population compared to 33.16% at Cesar Chavez Learning Center.
Reinhardt Elementary School’s bilingual students comprise 46.05%, gifted and talented students, 14.90%, while 11.51% are in the special education program. Cesar Chavez Learning Center bilingual students comprise 30.57%, gifted and talented students, 10.54%, and 12.61% are in the special education program.
32 teachers employed at Reinhardt Elementary School have been teaching in the school for an average of about 10.4 years with individual teaching experience averaging 11.6 years. The 40 teachers at Cesar Chavez Learning Center have been serving the school for an average of 11.9 years with individual teaching experience averaging 13.2 years.
Of its teaching staff, Reinhardt Elementary School has one teacher only serving the school for over 30 years, has four teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 13 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, eight teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while three teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including three beginning teachers. Cesar Chavez Learning Center has three teachers serving the school for over 30 years, has seven teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, nine teachers have worked for 11-20 years, 14 teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while five teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including two beginning teachers.
In both schools, female teachers outnumber the male teachers. At Reinhardt Elementary School there are 23 female teachers and nine male teachers. Of its teaching staff, one special education teacher is being assisted by eight teachers aides or paraprofessionals. In addition to its teaching staff, the school has two staff members in the school administration department and four more working as school support staff.
At Cesar Chavez Learning Center there are 30 female teachers and ten male teachers. Of its teaching staff, one special education teacher is being assisted by 15 teachers aides or paraprofessionals.
