Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. The current standards, called Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills, outline what students should be able to learn and do in each course or grade. When we compared Petrosky Elementary School, which is a part of ALIEF ISD, with Landis Elementary School, which is a part of ALIEF ISD, we noted a big difference in ratings.
Petrosky Elementary School has a regular student population of 571 with a 11.7 students/teacher ratio while Landis Elementary School has 606 students and a student-teacher ratio of 11.9 students/teacher ratio.
Petrosky Elementary School performed excellent to earn a State accountability rating of A (90-100) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Petrosky Elementary School's five out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, post-secondary, with 25% student progress and 25% closing performance gaps. Landis Elementary School did not earn any distinction.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Hispanics comprise the biggest group at Petrosky Elementary School. They make up for 41.68% of student population, followed by African Americans (35.55%), Asians (14.54%), Whites or Caucasians (6.13%), Native Americans (1.23%) and Two or More Races (0.18%).
At Landis Elementary School, Hispanics make up 79.04% of student population, followed by African Americans (15.84%), Whites or Caucasians (2.81%), Asians (1.82%) and Native Americans (0.50%). There is no Two or More Races student in the school.
Based on household incomes, the Petrosky Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is slightly lower at 81.61% compared to 90.76% at Landis Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Petrosky Elementary School has 225 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 39.40% of student population. Landis Elementary School has significantly more ELLs at 458 or about 75.58% of student population.
Petrosky Elementary School’s bilingual students comprise 47.64%, gifted and talented students, 2.45%, while 12.78% are in the special education program. Landis Elementary School bilingual students comprise 76.07%, gifted and talented students, 0.50%, and 11.06% are in the special education program.
