Oakcrest Intermediate’s regular student population is 761 with a 15.5 students/teacher ratio. The student population at Grand Lakes Junior High School is 936 students and a 17.1 students/teacher ratio.

On the other hand, Grand Lakes Junior High School also performed excellent to earn a State accountability rating of A. The school posted 91 in student achievement, 90 in school progress, 89 in closing performance gaps and 90 overall in post-secondary readiness.
A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
It is in this area where the two schools differ. Oakcrest Intermediate's four out of seven distinctions are in Mathematics, Science, with 25% student progress and 25% closing performance gaps. Grand Lakes Junior High School’s only distinction designation is in Post-Secondary.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Whites or Caucasians comprise the biggest group at Oakcrest Intermediate. They make up for 43.63% of student population, followed by Hispanics (32.59%), Asians (13.01%), African Americans (5.39%) and Two or More Races (5.39%). There is no Native Americans student in the school.
The student population at Grand Lakes Junior High School is also predominantly by Whites or Caucasians at 43.27%, followed by Hispanics (33.97%), Asians (10.90%), African Americans (7.05%), Two or More Races (4.70%) and Native Americans (0.11%).
Based on household incomes, the Oakcrest Intermediate’s economically disadvantaged students is lower at 25.76% compared to 27.35% at Grand Lakes Junior High School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Oakcrest Intermediate has 113 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 14.85% of student population. Grand Lakes Junior High School has more ELLs at 114 or about 12.18% of student population.
In addition, Oakcrest Intermediate has 14.59% bilingual students, 13.80% are in the gifted and talented program, while 8.80% are in the special education program. This stacks up against Grand Lakes Junior High School with 11.75% bilingual students, 14.10% gifted and talented students and 8.87% students in the special education program.
Oakcrest Intermediate's 49 teachers have been working at the campus for an average of 5.2 years with individual teaching experience averaging 11.6 years.
