When we compared O Henry Middle School, which is a part of AUSTIN ISD, with Paredes Middle School, which is a part of AUSTIN ISD, we noted a wide disparity in ratings.
O Henry Middle School’s regular student population is 816 with a 14.2 students/teacher ratio. The student population at Paredes Middle School is 752 students and a 13.6 students/teacher ratio.
O Henry Middle School earned a State accountability rating of B (80-89) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 85 in student achievement, 79 in school progress and 81 in closing performance gaps. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
O Henry Middle School's one out of seven distinction is in Mathematics. Paredes Middle School did not earn any distinction.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Whites or Caucasians comprise the biggest group at O Henry Middle School. They make up for 54.17% of student population, followed by Hispanics (38.85%), African Americans (3.06%), Two or More Races (2.33%), Asians (1.47%) and Native Americans (0.12%).
At Paredes Middle School, Hispanics make up 79.52% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (9.18%), African Americans (5.98%), Two or More Races (3.19%) and Asians (1.99%). There is no Native Americans student in the school.
Based on household incomes, the O Henry Middle School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly lower at 28.19% compared to 73.14% at Paredes Middle School.

Paredes Middle School has significantly more ELLs at 269 or about 35.77% of student population.
O Henry Middle School’s bilingual students comprise 9.68%, gifted and talented students, 15.44%, while 13.36% are in the special education program. Paredes Middle School bilingual students comprise 34.97%, gifted and talented students, 6.12%, and 19.81% are in the special education program.
