Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. When we compared Northwood Hills Elementary School, which is a part of RICHARDSON ISD, with Wallace Elementary School, which is a part of RICHARDSON ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
Northwood Hills Elementary School has a regular student population of 405 with a 10.9 students/teacher ratio while Wallace Elementary School has 584 students and a student-teacher ratio of 12.9 students/teacher ratio.
Northwood Hills Elementary School earned a State accountability rating of C (70-79) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 74 in student achievement, 79 in school progress and 73 in closing performance gaps. It scored 77 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.
On the other hand, Wallace Elementary School earned a State accountability rating of B. The school posted 77 in student achievement, 82 in school progress, 74 in closing performance gaps and 80 overall in post-secondary readiness.
A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Northwood Hills Elementary School's one out of seven distinction is in Science. Wallace Elementary School did not earn any distinction.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Hispanics comprise the biggest group at Northwood Hills Elementary School. They make up for 50.86% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (26.91%), African Americans (16.54%), Two or More Races (4.94%) and Asians (0.74%). There is no Native Americans student in the school.
The student population at Wallace Elementary School is also predominantly by Whites or Caucasians at 32.53%, followed by Hispanics (26.88%), African Americans (19.35%), Asians (18.84%) and Two or More Races (2.40%). There is no Native Americans student in the school.
Based on household incomes, the Northwood Hills Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is lower at 58.27% compared to 59.93% at Wallace Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Northwood Hills Elementary School has 133 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 32.84% of student population. Wallace Elementary School has significantly more ELLs at 197 or about 33.73% of student population.
In addition, Northwood Hills Elementary School has 32.84% bilingual students, 4.94% are in the gifted and talented program, while 18.02% are in the special education program. This stacks up against Wallace Elementary School with 33.73% bilingual students, 5.99% gifted and talented students and 13.87% students in the special education program.
