Northside High School’s regular student population is 1,319 with a student-teacher ratio of 16.1 students/teacher ratio. The student population at Austin High School is 1,557 students and a student-teacher ratio of 16.6 students/teacher ratio.
Northside High School earned a State accountability rating of C (70-79) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 67 in student achievement, 78 in school progress and 73 in closing performance gaps. It scored 77 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.
On the other hand, Austin High School earned a State accountability rating of B. The school posted 72 in student achievement, 82 in school progress, 74 in closing performance gaps and 80 overall in post-secondary readiness.
A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Northside High School's three out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics and Social Studies. Austin High School did not earn any distinction.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, the dominant group in Northside High School is Hispanics who make up nearly 85.14% of student population, followed by African Americans (13.57%), Whites or Caucasians (0.83%), Two or More Races (0.30%), Asians (0.08%) and Native Americans (0.08%).
At Austin High School, Hispanics make up 90.24% of student population, followed by African Americans (8.67%), Whites or Caucasians (0.64%), Two or More Races (0.19%), Asians (0.06%) and Native Americans (0.06%).
Based on household incomes, the Northside High School’s economically disadvantaged students is lower at 95.00% compared to 96.40% at Austin High School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Northside High School has 355 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 26.91% of student population. Austin High School has significantly more ELLs at 558 or about 35.84% of student population.
Northside High School’s bilingual students comprise 26.16%, gifted and talented students, 13.87%, while 12.13% are in the special education program. Austin High School bilingual students comprise 34.55%, gifted and talented students, 11.56%, and 12.72% are in the special education program.
