When we compared North Dallas High School, which is a part of DALLAS ISD, with Thomas Jefferson High School, which is a part of DALLAS ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
North Dallas High School’s regular student population is 1,202 with a student-teacher ratio of 16 students/teacher ratio. The student population at Thomas Jefferson High School is 1,461 students and a student-teacher ratio of 14.4 students/teacher ratio.
North Dallas High School earned a State accountability rating of C (70-79) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 73 in student achievement, 83 in school progress and 68 in closing performance gaps. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
North Dallas High School's four out of seven distinctions are in Mathematics, Social Studies, post-secondary and with 25% student progress. Thomas Jefferson High School did not earn any distinction.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, the dominant group in North Dallas High School is Hispanics who make up nearly 69.80% of student population, followed by African Americans (24.04%), Whites or Caucasians (3.00%), Asians (1.66%), Two or More Races (0.92%) and Native Americans (0.42%).
At Thomas Jefferson High School, Hispanics make up 94.39% of student population, followed by African Americans (3.70%), Whites or Caucasians (0.89%), Native Americans (0.89%) and Two or More Races (0.14%). There is no Asians student in the school.
Based on household incomes, the North Dallas High School’s economically disadvantaged students is slightly lower at 87.02% compared to 90.90% at Thomas Jefferson High School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, North Dallas High School has 524 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 43.59% of student population. Thomas Jefferson High School has significantly more ELLs at 1085 or about 74.26% of student population.
North Dallas High School’s bilingual students comprise 39.93%, gifted and talented students, 15.31%, while 11.90% are in the special education program. Thomas Jefferson High School bilingual students comprise 70.57%, gifted and talented students, 11.64%, and 8.49% are in the special education program.
