When we compared North Dallas High School, which is a part of DALLAS ISD, with School Of Health Professions, which is a part of DALLAS ISD, we noted a big difference in ratings.
North Dallas High School’s regular student population is 1,202 with a student-teacher ratio of 16 students/teacher ratio. The student population at School Of Health Professions is 488 students and a student-teacher ratio of 17.9 students/teacher ratio.
North Dallas High School earned a State accountability rating of C (70-79) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 73 in student achievement, 83 in school progress and 68 in closing performance gaps. It scored 79 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.
On the other hand, School Of Health Professions performed excellent to earn a State accountability rating of A. The school posted 97 in student achievement, 96 in school progress, 100 in closing performance gaps and 95 overall in post-secondary readiness.
A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
It is in this area where the two schools differ. North Dallas High School’s four out of seven distinctions are in Mathematics, Social Studies, post-secondary and with 25% student progress. School Of Health Professions's seven out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, post-secondary, with 25% student progress and 25% closing performance gaps.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, the dominant group in North Dallas High School is Hispanics who make up nearly 69.80% of student population, followed by African Americans (24.04%), Whites or Caucasians (3.00%), Asians (1.66%), Two or More Races (0.92%) and Native Americans (0.42%).
At School Of Health Professions, Hispanics make up 79.30% of student population, followed by African Americans (13.73%), Whites or Caucasians (3.07%), Asians (2.87%), Two or More Races (0.82%) and Native Americans (0.20%).
Based on household incomes, North Dallas High School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly higher at 87.02% compared to 70.49% at School Of Health Professions.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, North Dallas High School has a significantly higher number of English Language Learners comprising 43.59% of its student population compared to 11.68% at School Of Health Professions.
In addition, North Dallas High School has 39.93% bilingual students, 15.31% are in the gifted and talented program, while 11.90% are in the special education program. This stacks up against School Of Health Professions with 11.89% bilingual students, 50.00% gifted and talented students and 1.02% students in the special education program.
North Dallas High School's 75 teachers have been working at the campus for an average of 5.3 years with individual teaching experience averaging nearly 8.3 years. School Of Health Professions's 27 teachers have been working at the campus for an average of 8.4 years with individual teaching experience averaging close to 11.8 years.
Of its teaching staff, North Dallas High School has four teachers serving the school for over 30 years, has four teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 12 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, 16 teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 27 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including 12 beginning teachers. School Of Health Professions has one teacher only serving the school for over 30 years, has two teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 11 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, six teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while five teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including two beginning teachers.
In both schools, female teachers outnumber the male teachers. North Dallas High School employs 48 female teachers and 26 male teachers. Of its teaching staff, 13 special education teachers are being assisted by 12 teachers aides or paraprofessionals. The school also employs six staff members in the school administration department and ten more working as school support staff.
On the other hand, School Of Health Professions employs 20 female teachers and seven male teachers. Of its teaching staff, two teachers are aides or paraprofessionals. The school also employs two staff members in the school administration department and four more working as school support staff.
