When we compared Nichols Elementary School, which is a part of NORTHSIDE ISD, with Leon Springs Elementary School, which is a part of NORTHSIDE ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
Nichols Elementary School has a regular student population of 395 with a 13 students/teacher ratio while Leon Springs Elementary School has 449 students and a student-teacher ratio of 13.6 students/teacher ratio.
Nichols Elementary School earned a State accountability rating of B (80-89) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Leon Springs Elementary School's one out of seven distinction is in with 25% student progress. Nichols Elementary School has no distinction.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, the dominant group in Nichols Elementary School is Hispanics who make up nearly 70.13% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (22.78%), African Americans (3.54%), Two or More Races (3.04%) and Native Americans (0.25%). There is no Asians student in the school.
The student population at Leon Springs Elementary School is also predominantly by Hispanics at 52.12%, followed by Whites or Caucasians (35.19%), Asians (5.35%), African Americans (3.79%), Two or More Races (3.34%) and Native Americans (0.22%).
Based on household incomes, Nichols Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly higher at 38.99% compared to 18.49% at Leon Springs Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Nichols Elementary School has 14 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 3.54% of student population. Leon Springs Elementary School has slightly more ELLs at 26 or about 5.79% of student population.
Nichols Elementary School 18.99% are in the special education program, 4.05% are in the gifted and talented program, and bilingual students comprise 1.27% students.
