When we compared McKamy Elementary School, which is a part of CARROLLTON-FARMERS BRANCH ISD, with Thompson Elementary School, which is a part of CARROLLTON-FARMERS BRANCH ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
McKamy Elementary School has a regular student population of 494 with a 12.9 students/teacher ratio while Thompson Elementary School has 428 students and a student-teacher ratio of 12.2 students/teacher ratio.

It is in this area where the two schools differ. McKamy Elementary School’s only distinction designation is in Comparative Academic Growth. Thompson Elementary School's three out of seven distinctions are in Mathematics, Science and 25% closing performance gaps.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Hispanics comprise the biggest group at McKamy Elementary School. They make up for 44.74% of student population, followed by African Americans (40.49%), Whites or Caucasians (6.28%), Two or More Races (5.47%), Asians (2.63%) and Native Americans (0.40%).

Based on household incomes, McKamy Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly higher at 77.73% compared to 67.29% at Thompson Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, McKamy Elementary School has 132 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 26.72% of student population. Thompson Elementary School has significantly more ELLs at 184 or about 42.99% of student population.
In addition, McKamy Elementary School has 28.95% bilingual students, 2.63% are in the gifted and talented program, while 16.80% are in the special education program.
