Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
It is in this area where the two schools differ. Mata Intermediate’s two out of seven distinctions are in with 25% student progress and 25% closing performance gaps. Olle Middle School's three out of seven distinctions are in Social Studies, with 25% student progress and 25% closing performance gaps.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, the dominant group in Mata Intermediate is Hispanics who make up nearly 68.94% of student population, followed by African Americans (21.16%), Whites or Caucasians (3.84%), Asians (3.84%), Native Americans (1.73%) and Two or More Races (0.25%).
At Olle Middle School, Hispanics make up 77.49% of student population, followed by African Americans (16.71%), Asians (2.94%), Whites or Caucasians (1.80%), Native Americans (0.85%) and Two or More Races (0.09%).
Based on household incomes, the Mata Intermediate’s economically disadvantaged students is lower at 86.39% compared to 87.75% at Olle Middle School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Mata Intermediate has 536 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 66.34% of student population. Olle Middle School has significantly more ELLs at 614 or about 58.31% of student population.
Mata Intermediate’s bilingual students comprise 69.18%, gifted and talented students, 5.94%, while 14.85% are in the special education program. Olle Middle School bilingual students comprise 58.12%, gifted and talented students, 3.99%, and 9.59% are in the special education program.
Mata Intermediate's 66 teachers have been working at the campus for an average of 10.3 years with individual teaching experience averaging 12.8 years. Teachers at Olle Middle School, numbering 83 teachers, have been serving the school for an average of 6.7 years with individual teaching experience averaging 9.5 years.
Of its teaching staff, Mata Intermediate has two teachers serving the school for over 30 years, has 15 teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 15 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, 11 teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 21 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including two beginning teachers.
