Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
It is in this area where the two schools differ. Mata Intermediate’s two out of seven distinctions are in with 25% student progress and 25% closing performance gaps. Holub Middle School's five out of seven distinctions are in Mathematics, Social Studies, post-secondary, with 25% student progress and 25% closing performance gaps.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, the dominant group in Mata Intermediate is Hispanics who make up nearly 68.94% of student population, followed by African Americans (21.16%), Whites or Caucasians (3.84%), Asians (3.84%), Native Americans (1.73%) and Two or More Races (0.25%).
At Holub Middle School, Hispanics are the biggest group, comprising 59.90% of student population, followed by African Americans (28.48%), Asians (7.46%), Whites or Caucasians (2.32%), Native Americans (1.22%) and Two or More Races (0.61%).
Based on household incomes, Mata Intermediate’s economically disadvantaged students is higher at 86.39% compared to 83.86% at Holub Middle School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Mata Intermediate has a significantly higher number of English Language Learners comprising 66.34% of its student population compared to 42.30% at Holub Middle School.
Mata Intermediate’s bilingual students comprise 69.18%, gifted and talented students, 5.94%, while 14.85% are in the special education program. Holub Middle School bilingual students comprise 42.30%, gifted and talented students, 4.89%, and 12.35% are in the special education program.
Mata Intermediate's 66 teachers have been working at the campus for an average of 10.3 years with individual teaching experience averaging 12.8 years. Teachers at Holub Middle School, numbering 65 teachers, have been serving the school for an average of 8.2 years with individual teaching experience averaging 11.9 years.
Of its teaching staff, Mata Intermediate has two teachers serving the school for over 30 years, has 15 teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 15 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, 11 teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 21 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including two beginning teachers.
