A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Both schools garnered only two distinction designations or awards for performance. These are in with 25% student progress and 25% closing performance gaps.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, the dominant group in Mata Intermediate is Hispanics who make up nearly 68.94% of student population, followed by African Americans (21.16%), Whites or Caucasians (3.84%), Asians (3.84%), Native Americans (1.73%) and Two or More Races (0.25%).
The student population at Budewig Intermediate is also predominantly by African Americans at 46.09%, followed by Hispanics (39.14%), Asians (8.00%), Whites or Caucasians (4.75%), Native Americans (1.32%) and Two or More Races (0.53%).
Based on household incomes, Mata Intermediate’s economically disadvantaged students is higher at 86.39% compared to 83.64% at Budewig Intermediate.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Mata Intermediate has a significantly higher number of English Language Learners comprising 66.34% of its student population compared to 41.60% at Budewig Intermediate.
Mata Intermediate’s bilingual students comprise 69.18%, gifted and talented students, 5.94%, while 14.85% are in the special education program. Budewig Intermediate bilingual students comprise 41.42%, gifted and talented students, 4.49%, and 15.04% are in the special education program.
Mata Intermediate's 66 teachers have been working at the campus for an average of 10.3 years with individual teaching experience averaging 12.8 years. Teachers at Budewig Intermediate, numbering 90 teachers, have been serving the school for an average of 7.5 years with individual teaching experience averaging 10.3 years.
Of its teaching staff, Mata Intermediate has two teachers serving the school for over 30 years, has 15 teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 15 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, 11 teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 21 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including two beginning teachers.
