When we compared Leonard Middle School, which is a part of FORT WORTH ISD, with Young Men's Leadership Academy, which is a part of FORT WORTH ISD, we noted a wide disparity in ratings.
Leonard Middle School’s regular student population is 665 with a 13.5 students/teacher ratio. The student population at Young Men's Leadership Academy is 374 students and a 10.7 students/teacher ratio.
Leonard Middle School not rated a State accountability rating of Not Rated: SB 1365 (Not Rated per SB 1365) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 52 in student achievement, 58 in school progress and 64 in closing performance gaps. It scored 59 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.
On the other hand, Young Men's Leadership Academy earned a State accountability rating of B. The school posted 87 in student achievement, 88 in school progress, 84 in closing performance gaps and 87 overall in post-secondary readiness.
A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Young Men's Leadership Academy's one out of seven distinction is in post-secondary. Leonard Middle School has no distinction.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Hispanics comprise the biggest group at Leonard Middle School. They make up for 48.42% of student population, followed by African Americans (36.54%), Whites or Caucasians (10.38%), Two or More Races (3.76%), Asians (0.75%) and Native Americans (0.15%).
The student population at Young Men's Leadership Academy is also predominantly by Hispanics at 46.79%, followed by African Americans (42.51%), Whites or Caucasians (5.61%), Two or More Races (2.67%) and Asians (2.14%). There is no Native Americans student in the school.
Based on household incomes, Leonard Middle School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly higher at 93.38% compared to 79.41% at Young Men's Leadership Academy.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Leonard Middle School has a significantly higher number of English Language Learners comprising 26.92% of its student population compared to 25.40% at Young Men's Leadership Academy.
In addition, Leonard Middle School has 24.96% bilingual students, 8.42% are in the gifted and talented program, while 12.48% are in the special education program. This stacks up against Young Men's Leadership Academy with 24.33% bilingual students, 31.02% gifted and talented students and 7.49% students in the special education program.

In both schools, female teachers outnumber the male teachers. At Leonard Middle School there are 26 female teachers and 22 male teachers. Of its teaching staff, four special education teachers are being assisted by three teachers aides or paraprofessionals. In addition to its teaching staff, the school has three staff members in the school administration department and six more working as school support staff.
At Young Men's Leadership Academy there are 17 female teachers and 16 male teachers. Of its teaching staff, one teacher is aides or paraprofessionals.
