Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. The current standards, called Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills, outline what students should be able to learn and do in each course or grade. When we compared Kennedy Elementary School, which is a part of ALIEF ISD, with Boone Elementary School, which is a part of ALIEF ISD, we noted a big difference in ratings.
Kennedy Elementary School has a regular student population of 643 with a 11.4 students/teacher ratio while Boone Elementary School has 639 students and a student-teacher ratio of 11.1 students/teacher ratio.
Kennedy Elementary School performed excellent to earn a State accountability rating of A (90-100) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 70 in student achievement, 96 in school progress and 78 in closing performance gaps. It scored 91 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.
On the other hand, Boone Elementary School earned a State accountability rating of C. The school posted 62 in student achievement, 80 in school progress, 75 in closing performance gaps and 79 overall in post-secondary readiness.
A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Kennedy Elementary School's three out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics and with 25% student progress. Boone Elementary School did not earn any distinction.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, the dominant group in Kennedy Elementary School is Hispanics who make up nearly 77.45% of student population, followed by African Americans (17.88%), Whites or Caucasians (2.18%), Asians (1.56%) and Native Americans (0.78%). There is no Two or More Races student in the school.
At Boone Elementary School, Hispanics make up 68.70% of student population, followed by African Americans (24.26%), Asians (4.07%), Whites or Caucasians (2.50%), Native Americans (0.31%) and Two or More Races (0.16%).
Based on household incomes, Kennedy Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is higher at 90.67% compared to 89.67% at Boone Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Kennedy Elementary School has a significantly higher number of English Language Learners comprising 69.83% of its student population compared to 66.51% at Boone Elementary School.
In addition, Kennedy Elementary School has 69.67% bilingual students, 0.93% are in the gifted and talented program, while 14.15% are in the special education program. This stacks up against Boone Elementary School with 66.35% bilingual students, 4.23% gifted and talented students and 10.49% students in the special education program.

The 57 teachers at Boone Elementary School have been serving the school for an average of 9.4 years with individual teaching experience averaging 11.3 years.
Of its teaching staff, Kennedy Elementary School no teacher serving the school for over 30 years, has six teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 21 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, 13 teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 15 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including two beginning teachers. Boone Elementary School no teacher serving the school for over 30 years, has nine teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 19 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, nine teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 18 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including three beginning teachers.
In both schools, female teachers outnumber the male teachers. At Kennedy Elementary School there are 48 female teachers and eight male teachers. Of its teaching staff, three special education teachers are being assisted by 18 teachers aides or paraprofessionals.
