Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. The current standards, called Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills, outline what students should be able to learn and do in each course or grade. The curriculum is structured around the fundamentals of mathematics, science, social studies, language arts, music and reading.
When we compared Keith Elementary School, which is a part of CYPRESS-FAIRBANKS ISD, with Post Elementary School, which is a part of CYPRESS-FAIRBANKS ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
Keith Elementary School has a regular student population of 1,130 with a 17.1 students/teacher ratio while Post Elementary School has 853 students and a student-teacher ratio of 14.3 students/teacher ratio.
Keith Elementary School performed excellent to earn a State accountability rating of A (90-100) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 92 in student achievement, 89 in school progress and 96 in closing performance gaps. It scored 93 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.
On the other hand, Post Elementary School earned a State accountability rating of B. The school posted 77 in student achievement, 90 in school progress, 80 in closing performance gaps and 87 overall in post-secondary readiness.
A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Both schools garnered only one distinction designation or award for performance. This is in Science.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Whites or Caucasians comprise the biggest group at Keith Elementary School. They make up for 44.16% of student population, followed by Hispanics (23.89%), Asians (14.16%), African Americans (11.59%), Two or More Races (5.66%) and Native Americans (0.44%).
The student population at Post Elementary School is also predominantly by Hispanics at 49.36%, followed by African Americans (25.09%), Whites or Caucasians (16.41%), Asians (4.92%), Two or More Races (3.40%) and Native Americans (0.70%).
Based on household incomes, the Keith Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly lower at 28.58% compared to 68.11% at Post Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Keith Elementary School has 124 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 10.97% of student population. Post Elementary School has significantly more ELLs at 210 or about 24.62% of student population.
Keith Elementary School’s bilingual students comprise 10.80%, gifted and talented students, 7.79%, while 10.09% are in the special education program. Post Elementary School bilingual students comprise 24.50%, gifted and talented students, 5.16%, and 12.08% are in the special education program.
65 teachers employed at Keith Elementary School have been teaching in the school for an average of about 10 years with individual teaching experience averaging 11.8 years. The 59 teachers at Post Elementary School have been serving the school for an average of 6.4 years with individual teaching experience averaging 9.3 years.
Of its teaching staff, Keith Elementary School no teacher serving the school for over 30 years, has ten teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 28 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, 11 teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 13 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including four beginning teachers. Post Elementary School no teacher serving the school for over 30 years, has seven teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 14 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, 17 teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 17 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including five beginning teachers.
In both schools, female teachers outnumber the male teachers. At Keith Elementary School there are 64 female teachers and one male teacher only. Of its teaching staff, nine special education teachers are being assisted by 20 teachers aides or paraprofessionals. On the other hand, Post Elementary School has an all-female teaching staff. Of its teaching staff, eight special education teachers are being assisted by 22 teachers aides or paraprofessionals.
