When we compared James Madison High School, which is a part of DALLAS ISD, with W W Samuell High School, which is a part of DALLAS ISD, we noted a huge gap in ratings.
James Madison High School’s regular student population is 416 with a student-teacher ratio of 12.7 students/teacher ratio. The student population at W W Samuell High School is 1,875 students and a student-teacher ratio of 14.9 students/teacher ratio.
James Madison High School earned a State accountability rating of C (70-79) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 66 in student achievement, 75 in school progress and 73 in closing performance gaps. It scored 74 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.
On the other hand, W W Samuell High School not rated a State accountability rating of Not Rated: SB 1365. The school posted 62 in student achievement, 68 in school progress, 60 in closing performance gaps and 66 overall in post-secondary readiness.
A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
James Madison High School's two out of seven distinctions are in Social Studies and post-secondary. W W Samuell High School did not earn any distinction.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, African Americans comprise the biggest group at James Madison High School. They make up for 60.58% of student population, followed by Hispanics (38.46%), Whites or Caucasians (0.48%) and Two or More Races (0.48%). There is no Asians and Native Americansstudents in the school.
At W W Samuell High School, Hispanics make up 84.11% of student population, followed by African Americans (13.39%), Whites or Caucasians (1.76%), Native Americans (0.53%), Two or More Races (0.16%) and Asians (0.05%).
Based on household incomes, James Madison High School’s economically disadvantaged students is higher at 95.67% compared to 92.69% at W W Samuell High School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, James Madison High School has 134 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 32.21% of student population. W W Samuell High School has significantly more ELLs at 1093 or about 58.29% of student population.
In addition, James Madison High School has 30.29% bilingual students, 6.73% are in the gifted and talented program, while 8.89% are in the special education program. This stacks up against W W Samuell High School with 54.72% bilingual students, 9.81% gifted and talented students and 12.53% students in the special education program.
