When we compared Jack E Singley Academy, which is a part of IRVING ISD, with Nimitz High School, which is a part of IRVING ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
Jack E Singley Academy’s regular student population is 1,637 with a student-teacher ratio of 15.1 students/teacher ratio. The student population at Nimitz High School is 2,477 students and a student-teacher ratio of 14.5 students/teacher ratio.
Jack E Singley Academy earned a State accountability rating of B (80-89) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 87 in student achievement, 88 in school progress and 78 in closing performance gaps. It scored 85 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.
On the other hand, Nimitz High School earned a State accountability rating of C. The school posted 75 in student achievement, 77 in school progress, 70 in closing performance gaps and 75 overall in post-secondary readiness.
A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
It is in this area where the two schools differ. Jack E Singley Academy's five out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, Science, Social Studies and post-secondary. Nimitz High School’s two out of seven distinctions are in Science and post-secondary.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, the dominant group in Jack E Singley Academy is Hispanics who make up nearly 73.18% of student population, followed by African Americans (9.53%), Asians (8.61%), Whites or Caucasians (6.78%), Two or More Races (0.86%) and Native Americans (0.79%).
At Nimitz High School, Hispanics make up 81.83% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (8.36%), African Americans (5.93%), Asians (2.14%), Native Americans (0.93%) and Two or More Races (0.73%).
Based on household incomes, the Jack E Singley Academy’s economically disadvantaged students is lower at 81.80% compared to 84.46% at Nimitz High School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Jack E Singley Academy has 426 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 26.02% of student population. Nimitz High School has significantly more ELLs at 829 or about 33.47% of student population.
Jack E Singley Academy’s bilingual students comprise 25.72%, gifted and talented students, 24.37%, while 3.42% are in the special education program. Nimitz High School bilingual students comprise 33.19%, gifted and talented students, 11.02%, and 7.75% are in the special education program.
Jack E Singley Academy's 108 teachers have been working at the campus for an average of 7.1 years with individual teaching experience averaging nearly 11.3 years. Nimitz High School's 171 teachers have been working at the campus for an average of 6.7 years with individual teaching experience averaging close to 9.8 years.
Of its teaching staff, Jack E Singley Academy has three teachers serving the school for over 30 years, has 14 teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 27 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, 35 teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 21 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including eight beginning teachers. Nimitz High School has three teachers serving the school for over 30 years, has 15 teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 52 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, 47 teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 34 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including 20 beginning teachers.
In both schools, female teachers outnumber the male teachers. Jack E Singley Academy employs 58 female teachers and 49 male teachers. Of its teaching staff, three special education teachers are being assisted by ten teachers aides or paraprofessionals. The school also employs five staff members in the school administration department and nine more working as school support staff.
On the other hand, Nimitz High School employs 103 female teachers and 68 male teachers. Of its teaching staff, 14 special education teachers are being assisted by 20 teachers aides or paraprofessionals. The school also employs six staff members in the school administration department and 11 more working as school support staff.
