Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. The current standards, called Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills, outline what students should be able to learn and do in each course or grade. When we compared Idea Elsa Academy, which is a part of IDEA PUBLIC SCHOOLS, with Idea College Prep, which is a part of IDEA PUBLIC SCHOOLS, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
Idea Elsa Academy has a regular student population of 672 with a 20.4 students/teacher ratio while Idea College Prep has 716 students and a student-teacher ratio of 13.7 students/teacher ratio.
Idea Elsa Academy performed excellent to earn a State accountability rating of A (90-100) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 77 in student achievement, 93 in school progress and 86 in closing performance gaps. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
It is in this area where the two schools differ. Idea Elsa Academy’s two out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA) and post-secondary. Idea College Prep's six out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, post-secondary and with 25% student progress.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, the dominant group in Idea Elsa Academy is Hispanics who make up nearly 94.64% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (5.36%). There is no African Americans, Asians, Native Americans and Two or More Racesstudents in the school.
At Idea College Prep, Hispanics make up 97.07% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (2.79%) and Two or More Races (0.14%). There is no African Americans, Asians and Native Americansstudents in the school.
Based on household incomes, the Idea Elsa Academy’s economically disadvantaged students is lower at 95.24% compared to 96.65% at Idea College Prep.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Idea Elsa Academy has 329 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 48.96% of student population. Idea College Prep has significantly more ELLs at 389 or about 54.33% of student population.
Idea Elsa Academy has no gifted and talented student, while 7.59% are in the special education program, and bilingual students comprise 45.68% students. Idea College Prep has no gifted and talented student, while 7.12% are in the special education program, and bilingual students comprise 52.65% students.
33 teachers employed at Idea Elsa Academy have been teaching in the school for an average of about 2.8 years with individual teaching experience averaging 3.4 years.
