A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
It is in this area where the two schools differ. Hogg Middle School’s five out of seven distinctions are in Mathematics, Science, post-secondary, with 25% student progress and 25% closing performance gaps. Project Chrysalis Middle School's seven out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, post-secondary, with 25% student progress and 25% closing performance gaps.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Hispanics comprise the biggest group at Hogg Middle School. They make up for 64.62% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (24.07%), African Americans (4.99%), Asians (3.07%), Two or More Races (2.78%) and Native Americans (0.48%).
At Project Chrysalis Middle School, Hispanics make up 94.42% of student population, followed by Asians (2.60%), Whites or Caucasians (1.49%), African Americans (1.12%) and Two or More Races (0.37%). There is no Native Americans student in the school.
Based on household incomes, the Hogg Middle School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly lower at 48.32% compared to 75.09% at Project Chrysalis Middle School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Hogg Middle School has a significantly higher number of English Language Learners comprising 14.96% of its student population compared to 30.11% at Project Chrysalis Middle School.
In addition, Hogg Middle School has 15.63% bilingual students, 32.79% are in the gifted and talented program, while 10.55% are in the special education program.
