Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. When we compared Gleason Elementary School, which is a part of CYPRESS-FAIRBANKS ISD, with Matzke Elementary School, which is a part of CYPRESS-FAIRBANKS ISD, we noted a big difference in ratings.
Gleason Elementary School has a regular student population of 908 with a 17.1 students/teacher ratio while Matzke Elementary School has 1,024 students and a student-teacher ratio of 13.7 students/teacher ratio.
Gleason Elementary School performed excellent to earn a State accountability rating of A (90-100) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Gleason Elementary School's one out of seven distinction is in post-secondary. Matzke Elementary School did not earn any distinction.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Hispanics comprise the biggest group at Gleason Elementary School. They make up for 51.21% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (16.52%), Asians (14.21%), African Americans (13.33%), Two or More Races (3.74%) and Native Americans (0.99%).
The student population at Matzke Elementary School is also predominantly by Hispanics at 50.88%, followed by African Americans (25.10%), Whites or Caucasians (12.60%), Asians (6.54%), Two or More Races (4.59%) and Native Americans (0.20%).
Based on household incomes, the Gleason Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is slightly lower at 62.22% compared to 71.88% at Matzke Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Gleason Elementary School has a significantly higher number of English Language Learners comprising 29.52% of its student population compared to 22.85% at Matzke Elementary School.
Gleason Elementary School’s bilingual students comprise 28.52%, gifted and talented students, 4.74%, while 8.70% are in the special education program. Matzke Elementary School bilingual students comprise 21.78%, gifted and talented students, 1.07%, and 13.57% are in the special education program.
