Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. When we compared Gleason Elementary School, which is a part of CYPRESS-FAIRBANKS ISD, with Hoover Elementary School, which is a part of CYPRESS-FAIRBANKS ISD, we noted a big difference in ratings.
Gleason Elementary School has a regular student population of 908 with a 17.1 students/teacher ratio while Hoover Elementary School has 842 students and a student-teacher ratio of 13.9 students/teacher ratio.
Gleason Elementary School performed excellent to earn a State accountability rating of A (90-100) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Gleason Elementary School's one out of seven distinction is in post-secondary. Hoover Elementary School did not earn any distinction.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Hispanics comprise the biggest group at Gleason Elementary School. They make up for 51.21% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (16.52%), Asians (14.21%), African Americans (13.33%), Two or More Races (3.74%) and Native Americans (0.99%).
At Hoover Elementary School, Hispanics are the biggest group, comprising 62.71% of student population, followed by African Americans (23.75%), Whites or Caucasians (6.06%), Asians (3.56%), Two or More Races (3.44%) and Native Americans (0.48%).
Based on household incomes, the Gleason Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly lower at 62.22% compared to 84.44% at Hoover Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Gleason Elementary School has 268 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 29.52% of student population. Hoover Elementary School has significantly more ELLs at 323 or about 38.36% of student population.
Gleason Elementary School’s bilingual students comprise 28.52%, gifted and talented students, 4.74%, while 8.70% are in the special education program. Hoover Elementary School bilingual students comprise 38.00%, gifted and talented students, 0.24%, and 14.49% are in the special education program.
