Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. The current standards, called Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills, outline what students should be able to learn and do in each course or grade. The curriculum is structured around the fundamentals of mathematics, science, social studies, language arts, music and reading.
When we compared G W Robinson, which is a part of CLEAR CREEK ISD, with Wedgewood Elementary School, which is a part of CLEAR CREEK ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
G W Robinson has a regular student population of 529 with a 17.1 students/teacher ratio while Wedgewood Elementary School has 630 students and a student-teacher ratio of 13.6 students/teacher ratio.
G W Robinson performed excellent to earn a State accountability rating of A (90-100) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 86 in student achievement, 91 in school progress and 88 in closing performance gaps. It scored 90 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.
On the other hand, Wedgewood Elementary School earned a State accountability rating of B. The school posted 74 in student achievement, 90 in school progress, 77 in closing performance gaps and 86 overall in post-secondary readiness.
A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Distinction Designations for G W Robinson and Wedgewood Elementary School are not applicable as neither one earned a recognition for outstanding achievement in seven categories.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Whites or Caucasians comprise the biggest group at G W Robinson. They make up for 64.84% of student population, followed by Hispanics (21.36%), Two or More Races (5.48%), African Americans (4.91%), Asians (2.46%) and Native Americans (0.95%).
The student population at Wedgewood Elementary School is also predominantly by Whites or Caucasians at 45.08%, followed by Hispanics (36.83%), African Americans (9.21%), Two or More Races (5.71%), Asians (2.86%) and Native Americans (0.32%).
Based on household incomes, the G W Robinson’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly lower at 33.46% compared to 55.24% at Wedgewood Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, G W Robinson has 26 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 4.91% of student population. Wedgewood Elementary School has slightly more ELLs at 46 or about 7.30% of student population.
G W Robinson’s bilingual students comprise 4.91%, gifted and talented students, 15.31%, while 10.78% are in the special education program. Wedgewood Elementary School bilingual students comprise 6.83%, gifted and talented students, 4.13%, and 17.46% are in the special education program.
30 teachers employed at G W Robinson have been teaching in the school for an average of about 6.5 years with individual teaching experience averaging 11.7 years. The 46 teachers at Wedgewood Elementary School have been serving the school for an average of 6.9 years with individual teaching experience averaging 9.1 years.
Of its teaching staff, G W Robinson no teacher serving the school for over 30 years, has six teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 11 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, four teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while ten teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, and school has no beginning teacher. Wedgewood Elementary School no teacher serving the school for over 30 years, has four teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, nine teachers have worked for 11-20 years, 16 teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 18 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, and school has no beginning teacher.
In both schools, female teachers outnumber the male teachers. At G W Robinson there are 30 female teachers and zero male teacher. Of its teaching staff, one special education teacher is being assisted by seven teachers aides or paraprofessionals. In addition to its teaching staff, the school has two staff members in the school administration department and 11 more working as school support staff.
At Wedgewood Elementary School there are 45 female teachers and one male teacher only. Of its teaching staff, eight special education teachers are being assisted by 11 teachers aides or paraprofessionals. In addition to its teaching staff, the school has two staff members in the school administration department and seven more working as school support staff.
