Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. The current standards, called Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills, outline what students should be able to learn and do in each course or grade. When we compared Frost Elementary School, which is a part of LAMAR CISD, with Tamarron Elementary School, which is a part of LAMAR CISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
Frost Elementary School has a regular student population of 870 with a 17 students/teacher ratio while Tamarron Elementary School has 788 students and a student-teacher ratio of 18.8 students/teacher ratio.
Frost Elementary School performed excellent to earn a State accountability rating of A (90-100) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Frost Elementary School's five out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, post-secondary, with 25% student progress and 25% closing performance gaps. Tamarron Elementary School did not earn any distinction.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Whites or Caucasians comprise the biggest group at Frost Elementary School. They make up for 48.39% of student population, followed by Hispanics (24.14%), African Americans (17.93%), Two or More Races (4.94%), Asians (4.14%) and Native Americans (0.34%).
The student population at Tamarron Elementary School is also predominantly by Hispanics at 45.05%, followed by African Americans (23.48%), Whites or Caucasians (17.89%), Asians (8.12%), Two or More Races (4.82%) and Native Americans (0.63%).
Based on household incomes, the Frost Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly lower at 29.54% compared to 42.64% at Tamarron Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Frost Elementary School has 72 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 8.28% of student population. Tamarron Elementary School has significantly more ELLs at 289 or about 36.68% of student population.
Frost Elementary School’s bilingual students comprise 8.28%, gifted and talented students, 11.03%, while 11.95% are in the special education program. Tamarron Elementary School bilingual students comprise 36.04%, gifted and talented students, 4.95%, and 9.64% are in the special education program.
51 teachers employed at Frost Elementary School have been teaching in the school for an average of about 3.8 years with individual teaching experience averaging 8.1 years. The 41 teachers at Tamarron Elementary School have been serving the school for an average of 1.9 years with individual teaching experience averaging 5.7 years.
Of its teaching staff, Frost Elementary School has one teacher only serving the school for over 30 years, has four teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, nine teachers have worked for 11-20 years, 13 teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 16 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including nine beginning teachers.
