Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. The current standards, called Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills, outline what students should be able to learn and do in each course or grade. The curriculum is structured around the fundamentals of mathematics, science, social studies, language arts, music and reading.
When we compared Frazier Elementary School, which is a part of PASADENA ISD, with Kruse Elementary School, which is a part of PASADENA ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
Frazier Elementary School has a regular student population of 424 with a 11.4 students/teacher ratio while Kruse Elementary School has 452 students and a student-teacher ratio of 12.5 students/teacher ratio.
Frazier Elementary School performed excellent to earn a State accountability rating of A (90-100) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 82 in student achievement, 93 in school progress and an impressive100 in closing performance gaps. A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Frazier Elementary School's five out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, post-secondary, with 25% student progress and 25% closing performance gaps. Kruse Elementary School did not earn any distinction.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, the dominant group in Frazier Elementary School is Hispanics who make up nearly 78.77% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (8.49%), African Americans (8.25%), Asians (2.83%) and Two or More Races (1.42%). There is no Native Americans student in the school.
At Kruse Elementary School, Hispanics make up 93.36% of student population, followed by African Americans (3.10%), Whites or Caucasians (3.10%), Native Americans (0.22%) and Two or More Races (0.22%). There is no Asians student in the school.
Based on household incomes, the Frazier Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly lower at 74.76% compared to 94.91% at Kruse Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Frazier Elementary School has 95 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 22.41% of student population. Kruse Elementary School has significantly more ELLs at 184 or about 40.71% of student population.
Frazier Elementary School’s bilingual students comprise 16.27%, gifted and talented students, 4.25%, while 16.04% are in the special education program. Kruse Elementary School bilingual students comprise 36.50%, gifted and talented students, 1.99%, and 10.18% are in the special education program.
