Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. When we compared Frazier Elementary School, which is a part of PASADENA ISD, with Bailey Elementary School, which is a part of PASADENA ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
Frazier Elementary School has a regular student population of 424 with a 11.4 students/teacher ratio while Bailey Elementary School has 623 students and a student-teacher ratio of 12.7 students/teacher ratio.
Frazier Elementary School performed excellent to earn a State accountability rating of A (90-100) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
It is in this area where the two schools differ. Frazier Elementary School's five out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, post-secondary, with 25% student progress and 25% closing performance gaps. Bailey Elementary School’s three out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics and with 25% student progress.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, the dominant group in Frazier Elementary School is Hispanics who make up nearly 78.77% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (8.49%), African Americans (8.25%), Asians (2.83%) and Two or More Races (1.42%). There is no Native Americans student in the school.
At Bailey Elementary School, Hispanics make up 85.55% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (8.03%), African Americans (5.78%), Two or More Races (0.48%) and Asians (0.16%). There is no Native Americans student in the school.
Based on household incomes, the Frazier Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly lower at 74.76% compared to 88.76% at Bailey Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Frazier Elementary School has 95 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 22.41% of student population. Bailey Elementary School has significantly more ELLs at 236 or about 37.88% of student population.
Frazier Elementary School’s bilingual students comprise 16.27%, gifted and talented students, 4.25%, while 16.04% are in the special education program. Bailey Elementary School bilingual students comprise 44.62%, gifted and talented students, 2.41%, and 14.13% are in the special education program.
