Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. The current standards, called Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills, outline what students should be able to learn and do in each course or grade. When we compared Fox Elementary School, which is a part of KLEIN ISD, with Eiland Elementary School, which is a part of KLEIN ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
Fox Elementary School has a regular student population of 743 with a 16 students/teacher ratio while Eiland Elementary School has 548 students and a student-teacher ratio of 10.7 students/teacher ratio.
Fox Elementary School performed excellent to earn a State accountability rating of A (90-100) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 91 in student achievement, 93 in school progress and 94 in closing performance gaps. A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Fox Elementary School's five out of seven distinctions are in Mathematics, Science, post-secondary, with 25% student progress and 25% closing performance gaps. Eiland Elementary School did not earn any distinction.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Hispanics comprise the biggest group at Fox Elementary School. They make up for 42.40% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (22.34%), African Americans (21.27%), Asians (7.40%), Two or More Races (6.19%) and Native Americans (0.40%).
At Eiland Elementary School, Hispanics make up 81.75% of student population, followed by African Americans (13.50%), Whites or Caucasians (2.37%), Asians (1.82%), Two or More Races (0.36%) and Native Americans (0.18%).
Based on household incomes, the Fox Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly lower at 52.49% compared to 93.43% at Eiland Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Fox Elementary School has 187 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 25.17% of student population. Eiland Elementary School has significantly more ELLs at 341 or about 62.23% of student population.
Fox Elementary School’s bilingual students comprise 30.15%, gifted and talented students, 5.65%, while 11.04% are in the special education program. Eiland Elementary School bilingual students comprise 62.04%, gifted and talented students, 1.82%, and 12.23% are in the special education program.
46 teachers employed at Fox Elementary School have been teaching in the school for an average of about 6.2 years with individual teaching experience averaging 10.1 years. The 51 teachers at Eiland Elementary School have been serving the school for an average of 6.5 years with individual teaching experience averaging 10.9 years.
Of its teaching staff, Fox Elementary School no teacher serving the school for over 30 years, has three teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 18 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, 12 teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 11 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including three beginning teachers. Eiland Elementary School has one teacher only serving the school for over 30 years, has four teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 20 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, eight teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while 16 teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including two beginning teachers.
In both schools, female teachers outnumber the male teachers. At Fox Elementary School there are 44 female teachers and two male teachers. Of its teaching staff, seven special education teachers are being assisted by ten teachers aides or paraprofessionals.
