Choosing the right middle school for your children can prove to be a daunting task. Middle school is when children start to flex their growing independence. When we compared Fort Settlement Middle School, which is a part of FORT BEND ISD, with Ronald Thornton Middle School, which is a part of FORT BEND ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
Fort Settlement Middle School’s regular student population is 1,385 with a 19.1 students/teacher ratio. The student population at Ronald Thornton Middle School is 1,464 students and a 19.7 students/teacher ratio.
Fort Settlement Middle School performed excellent to earn a State accountability rating of A (90-100) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 96 in student achievement, 92 in school progress and an impressive100 in closing performance gaps. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Fort Settlement Middle School's seven out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, post-secondary, with 25% student progress and 25% closing performance gaps. Ronald Thornton Middle School did not earn any distinction.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Asians comprise the biggest group at Fort Settlement Middle School. They make up for 62.53% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (17.91%), Hispanics (7.94%), African Americans (6.86%), Two or More Races (4.12%) and Native Americans (0.65%).
The student population at Ronald Thornton Middle School is also predominantly by African Americans at 31.56%, followed by Whites or Caucasians (29.64%), Hispanics (26.43%), Asians (6.83%), Two or More Races (4.99%) and Native Americans (0.41%).
Based on household incomes, the Fort Settlement Middle School’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly lower at 13.50% compared to 37.02% at Ronald Thornton Middle School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Fort Settlement Middle School has 114 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 8.23% of student population. Ronald Thornton Middle School has significantly more ELLs at 164 or about 11.20% of student population.
Fort Settlement Middle School’s bilingual students comprise 7.58%, gifted and talented students, 19.93%, while 7.15% are in the special education program. Ronald Thornton Middle School bilingual students comprise 10.72%, gifted and talented students, 6.42%, and 10.18% are in the special education program.
