Choosing the best possible elementary school is critical to a child’s foundational development. In Texas, public school districts adopt curriculum standards set by the State Board of Education. The current standards, called Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills, outline what students should be able to learn and do in each course or grade. The curriculum is structured around the fundamentals of mathematics, science, social studies, language arts, music and reading.
When we compared Falcon Pass Elementary School, which is a part of CLEAR CREEK ISD, with North Pointe Elementary School, which is a part of CLEAR CREEK ISD, we noted a slight difference in ratings.
Falcon Pass Elementary School has a regular student population of 528 with a 13.9 students/teacher ratio while North Pointe Elementary School has 661 students and a student-teacher ratio of 14.4 students/teacher ratio.
Falcon Pass Elementary School earned a State accountability rating of B (80-89) based on three domains: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Scores are scaled from 0 to 100 to align with letter grades. The school scored 90 in student achievement, 90 in school progress and 81 in closing performance gaps. It scored 87 overall in post-secondary readiness, a broad term that refers to student preparedness to undertake multiple pathways after graduation, or specifically, their preparedness for college education.
On the other hand, North Pointe Elementary School performed excellent to earn a State accountability rating of A. The school posted 88 in student achievement, 91 in school progress, 92 in closing performance gaps and 91 overall in post-secondary readiness.
A distinction designation acknowledges districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on the outcomes of several performance indicators. Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
It is in this area where the two schools differ. Falcon Pass Elementary School's four out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, Science and post-secondary. North Pointe Elementary School’s three out of seven distinctions are in post-secondary, with 25% student progress and 25% closing performance gaps.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, Whites or Caucasians comprise the biggest group at Falcon Pass Elementary School. They make up for 43.18% of student population, followed by Hispanics (30.11%), Asians (11.36%), African Americans (8.71%) and Two or More Races (6.44%). There is no Native Americans student in the school.
The student population at North Pointe Elementary School is also predominantly by Hispanics at 34.49%, followed by Whites or Caucasians (31.92%), Asians (19.52%), African Americans (9.53%), Two or More Races (3.78%) and Native Americans (0.45%).
Based on household incomes, the Falcon Pass Elementary School’s economically disadvantaged students is slightly lower at 42.42% compared to 47.50% at North Pointe Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Falcon Pass Elementary School has 70 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 13.26% of student population. North Pointe Elementary School has significantly more ELLs at 144 or about 21.79% of student population.
Falcon Pass Elementary School’s bilingual students comprise 13.07%, gifted and talented students, 14.96%, while 16.86% are in the special education program. North Pointe Elementary School bilingual students comprise 20.88%, gifted and talented students, 14.07%, and 13.46% are in the special education program.
38 teachers employed at Falcon Pass Elementary School have been teaching in the school for an average of about 9.9 years with individual teaching experience averaging 13.8 years. The 46 teachers at North Pointe Elementary School have been serving the school for an average of 7.2 years with individual teaching experience averaging 11.5 years.
Of its teaching staff, Falcon Pass Elementary School has two teachers serving the school for over 30 years, has eight teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 12 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, eight teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while six teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including two beginning teachers. North Pointe Elementary School has one teacher only serving the school for over 30 years, has six teachers serving the school for 20-30 years, 15 teachers have worked for 11-20 years, 13 teachers have worked for 6-10 years, while seven teachers have been serving the school for over 1-5 years, including four beginning teachers.
In both schools, female teachers outnumber the male teachers. Falcon Pass Elementary School has an all-female teaching staff. Of its teaching staff, six special education teachers are being assisted by 17 teachers aides or paraprofessionals. In addition to its teaching staff, the school has two staff members in the school administration department and ten more working as school support staff.
At North Pointe Elementary School there are 45 female teachers and one male teacher only. Of its teaching staff, six special education teachers are being assisted by 15 teachers aides or paraprofessionals.
