Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Dr Martin Luther King Jr Arts Academy's five out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, Science, post-secondary and 25% closing performance gaps. Frederick Douglass Elementary School did not earn any distinction.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, African Americans comprise the biggest group at Dr Martin Luther King Jr Arts Academy. They make up for 62.68% of student population, followed by Hispanics (33.57%), Two or More Races (1.88%), Whites or Caucasians (0.94%) and Native Americans (0.94%). There is no Asians student in the school.
At Frederick Douglass Elementary School, African Americans are the biggest group, comprising 59.24% of student population, followed by Hispanics (37.68%), Whites or Caucasians (1.18%), Native Americans (0.95%) and Two or More Races (0.95%). There is no Asians student in the school.
Based on household incomes, the Dr Martin Luther King Jr Arts Academy’s economically disadvantaged students is slightly lower at 94.84% compared to 98.34% at Frederick Douglass Elementary School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Dr Martin Luther King Jr Arts Academy has 112 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 26.29% of student population. Frederick Douglass Elementary School has slightly more ELLs at 130 or about 30.81% of student population.
