Distinction designations are awarded for achievement in several areas and are based on performance relative to a group of campuses of similar type, size, grade span, and student demographics.
Dr Martin Luther King Jr Arts Academy's five out of seven distinctions are in Reading/English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, Science, post-secondary and 25% closing performance gaps. Eduardo Mata Montessori School did not earn any distinction.
Based on Racial/Ethnic Groups, African Americans comprise the biggest group at Dr Martin Luther King Jr Arts Academy. They make up for 62.68% of student population, followed by Hispanics (33.57%), Two or More Races (1.88%), Whites or Caucasians (0.94%) and Native Americans (0.94%). There is no Asians student in the school.
At Eduardo Mata Montessori School, Hispanics make up 70.76% of student population, followed by Whites or Caucasians (18.90%), African Americans (5.93%), Two or More Races (2.48%), Asians (0.97%) and Native Americans (0.83%).
Based on household incomes, Dr Martin Luther King Jr Arts Academy’s economically disadvantaged students is significantly higher at 94.84% compared to 60.00% at Eduardo Mata Montessori School.
In terms of Limited English Proficiency (LEP), a term used in the United States that refers to a person who is not fluent in the English Language, mainly because it is not their native language, Dr Martin Luther King Jr Arts Academy has 112 English Language Learners or ELLS or about 26.29% of student population. Eduardo Mata Montessori School has significantly more ELLs at 267 or about 36.83% of student population.
In addition, Dr Martin Luther King Jr Arts Academy has 27.70% bilingual students, 16.90% are in the gifted and talented program, while 8.22% are in the special education program.
